12 Jyotirlinga
The 12 jyotirlinga’s are most sacred places and auspicious
linga’s of lord Shiva, who is lord of all lords. (in Hindi Devonka Dev i.e.
Mahadeva)
Here Jyoti means light or radiance and linga
means symbol of Shiva. Hence the powerful light of almighty Shiva.
There are 12 Jyotirlinga temples or shrines in India and
these lingam’s are situated various parts of the country as following.
1. Somanath - Gujarat state (one who takes name of somanath, cures skin diseases)
2. Mallikarjuna - Srishailam of Andhra Pradesh state (Mallika = Mata Parvati Devi and Arjun = Shiva)
3. Mahakaleshwar - ujjaini of Madhya Pradesh state (one who takes name of Mahakaleshwar can overcome fear of death. Here Bhasmabhisheka is performed everyday)
4. OmKareshwar - Madhya Pradesh state (one who chants OmKareshwar name constructs multistory building/home)
5. Vaidyanath - Parali of Maharashtra state (also known as shakthi peetha)
6. Bhimashankara - Dakini of Maharashtra state (also called Ardhanarishwar)
7. Rameshwaram - setubandhu of Tamil Nadu state (lord Ram installed this rameshwaram linga)
8. Nageshwar - Dwaraka of Gujarat state (Lord Krishna worshiped during Mahabharata)
9. Vishveshwar - Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh state (Mukthidham)
10. Trymbakeshwar - Nasik of Maharashtra state (trinity gods : brhama,vishnu and shiva)
11. Kedarnath - Himalaya of Uttarakhand state (This linga is worshiped 6 months by devtas and 6 months by human)
12. Grishneshwar - Devasarovar of Maharashtra state (also known as kumkumeshwar)
