12 Jyotirlinga

The 12 jyotirlinga’s are most sacred places and auspicious linga’s of lord Shiva, who is lord of all lords. (in Hindi Devonka Dev i.e. Mahadeva)

Here Jyoti means light or radiance and linga means symbol of Shiva. Hence the powerful light of almighty Shiva.

There are 12 Jyotirlinga temples or shrines in India and these lingam’s are situated various parts of the country as following. 

1. Somanath - Gujarat state (one who takes name of somanath, cures skin diseases)

2. Mallikarjuna - Srishailam of Andhra Pradesh state (Mallika = Mata Parvati Devi and Arjun = Shiva)

3. Mahakaleshwar - ujjaini of Madhya Pradesh state (one who takes name of Mahakaleshwar can overcome fear of death. Here Bhasmabhisheka is performed everyday)

And who chants the holy Dwadasha Jyotirlinga sthotra continuously will live happily and achieve salvation and free from cycle of birth and death of human existence.
